Marvel's The Punisher Gets Series Order From Netflix – GeekMundo

Just a month after he made his latest debut in Daredevil, Marvel’s The Punisher is getting his own original series on Netflix with The Walking Dead alum Jon Bernthal reprising his role as Frank Castle.  Just like his Daredevil costar Charlie Cox did in the first season, Bernthal made a really good impression on fans in season two, so it’s no surprise that he will be helming his own Netflix original series.  To be honest, Bernthal saved a few episodes from being either too vested in Matt Murdock’s love life and messiness with the ladies in his life and Foggy.  I mean, there is only so much whining about Matt’s choices that we can tolerate.

There isn’t a release date yet, but I’d wager sometime in late 2017, early 2018 at most.  It just makes more sense.  With this series order of yet another Marvel property that either hasn’t seen the light of day in cinematic form or fared poorly in box offices, Netflix continues to prove its value as a space for Marvel’s vast wealth of storytelling to be told.  Here are the official details from Netflix:

“We want to thank the fans who are clamoring for more of Jon’s stunning and powerful performance as Frank Castle from ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb, “Now combined with Showrunner Steve Lightfoot’s compelling writing, we’re thrilled to bring Marvel’s The Punisher to Netflix.”

“Jon hooked our global audience with his performance as Frank Castle from the moment he stepped on screen in Marvel’s Daredevil, and we are looking forward to seeing more of him in this role under the vision of Steve Lightfoot,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content.

“For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into his world,” said Executive Producer and Showrunner, Steve Lightfoot. “After watching Jon’s performance in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own.”

Marvel’s The Punisher will join the ranks of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Iron Fist, Marvel’s The Defenders, and Marvel’s Luke Cage.  Are you guys feeling this news?  Let us know below, on the GeekMundo FaceBook page, or the GeekMundo Instagram page.
