When I first saw the trailer for Nick’s new animated series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir (ZAG/Zag Heroez) my first thought was how vivid and vibrant the animation was. My second thought was how cool that Nick will have a show for young geek girls (and some of us adult geek girls too) to watch featuring a superhero that’s witty, relatable, and powerful without some of the extra “bells and whistles” that we’re accustomed to seeing from more established, adult superheroines like Wonder Woman, Misty Knight, or Black Widow, for example. My last thought was how awesome the cosplay is going to be once Miraculous airs and (hopefully) gains a substantial following.
The young superheroine in question is 13 year-old Marinette who has recently come into some superpowers that she uses to help protect and defend the beautiful city of Paris. Yes, it takes place in Paris which adds to the beauty of the animation. She’s your average teen girl with average teen girl problems, but like all boss superheroes she has a sidekick who just so happens to be the guy she has a crush on. Now that’s a boss move! If you’re a fan of or enjoyed Miranda Mercury (Boom Entertainment) then you’ll definitely want to check out Miraculous this Sunday at 12 P.M ET/PT.

Synopsis:
Miraculous™ Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir follows the adventures of a charismatic young Marinette (13) who magically transforms into a vivacious superhero (Ladybug) to save the day using newly acquired superhero powers, mysterious lucky charms and the unique power of “creation.” As a young teen female superhero and unchallenged protector of Paris, Ladybug partners with sidekick, Cat Noir, to fight crime and save the beautiful “City of Lights.” Surprisingly, Ladybug and Cat Noir do not know each other’s true identities. Marinette is unaware that, beneath the Cat Noir suit nestles Adrien, her secret school crush. Similarly, Adrien doesn’t know that “his” Ladybug is really just Marinette, a rather plain girl in his class. The storylines and adventures are rich with friends, family, fun, adventure, secret identity, secret crushes, transformation, action, villains, fashion, creativity and more, all among the spectacular backdrop of Paris. The series will deliver nicely integrated themes that will be relatable, relevant and intriguing for both kids and preteens.
Miraculous is the product of a veritable league of nations working together. Toei Animation and Disney Channel EMEA are just some of the big names who worked to co-produce Nick’s new animated series. Look for our review of the first episode tomorrow!
