47 Ronin

Check out the first epic trailer for keanu Reeves new action adventure flick 47 Ronin after the jump and see if Keanu can right his career back to the greatness it once was.

Here is Universal Pictures first trailer for 47 Ronin starring Keanu Reeves in his big return to action adventure film. I had heard about some major troubles 47 Ronin was having and how Universal had fired the director and had to do major reshoots in London and the budget went over $200 million. I do not know if Keanu is the draw that Brad Pitt is, but hey it worked for World War Z didn’t it? That movie turned into a huge success after very long reshoots. So maybe Universal can hit it big with 47 Ronin. This first trailer has not totally sold me on the film just yet, but I am definitely more than half way over the fence and hopefully I do not get pushed back over. I am very interested in 47 Ronin. 47 Ronin hits theaters on December 25 and is directed by Carl Rinsch and stars Keanu Reeves, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ko Shibasaki, Tadanobu Asano and Rinko Kikuchi. Plot Synopsis: After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)—a half-breed they once rejected—as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors. As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.

  1. I love samurai films as we learnt mainly from Kurosawa.

There are many great Japanese directors not all making this thing. Try Mikio Naruse.

But, I always hated the fantasy aspect of these films and loved a historic piece. It looks great, as a trailer goes. You know, backs against the wall, oops, you forgot that magic power ! The day is saved !! Bloody hate that.

I’m not drawn to it because of Keanu, nothing against him being the lead. Just don’t do shakespeare again please.

Its on my list regardless. Wish I could take the magic away and just turn it into a tale of revenge, where worlds collide (European vs Japanese).
