Anthony Mackie may be joining Chris Evans in the upcoming ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, sequel to 2011 ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, as ‘Falcon’. Check out more details after the jump!
Anthony Mackie, who you most recently saw as Abraham Lincoln’s best friend in ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter‘, is in talks to star as Falcon, one of the first Black superheroes to hit the scene and Captain America’s homeboy from back in the 70s:
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the subtitle suggests a respected comic book storyline from the 2000s that resurrected Captain America’s sidekick Bucky as a brainwashed super-assassin known as the Winter Solider.
While Marvel would not comment nor divulge character details, it is believed that Mackie will portray the Falcon, one of mainstream comics’ first black superheroes and perhaps its first American one.
The character, Sam Wilson, is Harlem-based and had many street adventures with Cap in the 1970s comics, when he served as his partner. He derives his powers from a suit that allows him to fly and enhances his strength. He can also telepathically talk to birds. In current comics, Falcon is a key player in many of Cap’s espionage adventures.
Hopefully all will go well and it would be an excellent look for Mackie. ‘Winter Soldier’ is slated for release on April 4th, 2014. Mackie was one of the few saving graces in ‘AL:VH’. He’s much better placed in a good comic book movie. Granted, I am feeling Columbus Short for the role if Mackie can’t do it. He would be perfect!
All this means is that Comic-Con 2013 is going down…
